The Montana State city of Miles City, with a population of almost 8,500 people, is the county seat of Custer County and has its own racetrack called the Bucking Horse Sale. The 4 furlong oval track competes for attention with the famous Bucking Horse Sale rodeos (known as the Miles City Roundups between 1914 and 1950) which can date their history back to 1914. The main Bucking Horse season takes place on the third weekend in May, attracting massive crowds from across USA. The racecourse offers programmes of thoroughbred and quarter horse races, generally taking place for 3 days annually, spread across two consecutive weekends. The highlight of the racing year is the Bucking Horse Sale Horse Futurity.
